North Korea-Linked Lazarus Group Holds More Bitcoin Than Tesla, Owned by Elon Musk

Elon Musk’s Tesla Trails North Korean Hacker Group in BTC Holdings as Trump Aims to Establish the U.S. as the Global Crypto Hub.
Key Points:
- Lazarus Group, a North Korean cybercrime organization, now holds more Bitcoin than Tesla.
- Last month, the group hacked crypto exchange Bybit, stealing $1.4 billion in Ether (ETH), with some of the funds later converted into Bitcoin (BTC).
- Despite Tesla’s substantial Bitcoin reserves, the company has been surpassed by the North Korean hacker group in BTC holdings.
The Lazarus Group, a hacking organization linked to North Korea, currently holds more Bitcoin (BTC) than Tesla (TSLA), the electric vehicle company led by Elon Musk, according to Arkham Intelligence.
As of the latest data, Lazarus controls 13,441 BTC, valued at $1.14 billion, which is 16% more than Tesla’s Bitcoin reserves of 11,509 BTC.
Last month, the Lazarus Group targeted the crypto exchange Bybit, siphoning $1.4 billion in Ether (ETH) from the platform.
Recently, a portion of the stolen funds was converted into Bitcoin (BTC), with 12,836 BTC distributed across 9,117 unique wallets, as confirmed by Bybit CEO Ben Zhou.
Tesla acquired its Bitcoin holdings four years ago and has been holding onto them since, making it the fourth-largest publicly listed company in terms of BTC reserves.
The contrast between Tesla and the Lazarus Group has become more pronounced as Donald Trump’s pro-crypto stance has fueled calls for faster BTC adoption among corporations and governments worldwide.
On Thursday, Trump reaffirmed his commitment to making the U.S. the “undisputed Bitcoin superpower and the crypto capital of the world.” This raises the question of whether Tesla and other U.S. corporations will respond to being surpassed by a North Korean hacking group.
Meanwhile, the U.S. government holds 198,109 BTC, valued at over $16 billion, which consists of seized assets from enforcement actions. Trump recently declared these holdings as part of a strategic reserve.
