Ethereum Foundation Executive Director Aya Miyaguchi announced on Tuesday that she is stepping down from her current role and will soon transition to her new position as the organization's president.
The announcement comes amid a leadership shake-up at the nonprofit and growing concerns over Ethereum's declining appeal among new developers in recent months. Some have even criticized Miyaguchi’s leadership, suggesting it may be a factor in the blockchain’s token price lagging behind other cryptocurrencies.
In a blog post, Miyaguchi stated, “This new opportunity will allow me to continue supporting EF’s institutional relationships and to expand the reach of our vision and culture more broadly.”
The Ethereum Foundation, established in 2014, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the development of the Ethereum blockchain. Miyaguchi joined in 2018 and has served as its Executive Director ever since.
CoinDesk attempted to contact an Ethereum Foundation (EF) spokesperson to determine who will take over the Executive Director role but did not receive a response before publication.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin praised Miyaguchi’s leadership in a post on X, stating, “Every success of the EF—the steady execution of Ethereum hard forks, client interop workshops, Devcon, Ethereum's culture, and steadfast commitment to its mission and values—is in part a result of Aya's stewardship.”
