Metaplanet Increases Bitcoin Holdings to Over 4,000 BTC, Acquires an Additional 696 BTC

Metaplanet (3350), a Japanese hotel company, has added 696 BTC, valued at $58.5 million, to its holdings, increasing its total Bitcoin stash to 4,046 BTC.

The company made the purchase at an average price of approximately 14.6 million yen ($97,500) per BTC, resulting in a total expenditure of 10.15 billion yen.

Metaplanet's total Bitcoin holdings were acquired at an average price of about $86,500.57 per coin.

The company financed its Q1 Bitcoin purchases by selling cash-secured BTC put options—futures contracts that bet on the price of Bitcoin declining. These options were written at the start of the quarter, when Bitcoin was hitting all-time highs above $100,000. Metaplanet reported generating 770.3 million yen in revenue through this strategy.

"Compared to direct spot purchases at that time, this approach allowed the company to acquire more Bitcoin per yen spent—benefiting from premium income and a lower effective cost basis," Metaplanet stated in a release on Tuesday.

With its latest Bitcoin acquisition, Metaplanet has become the ninth-largest public Bitcoin holder, according to Bitcoin Treasuries data.

On Tuesday, the company’s shares, listed in Tokyo, gained 2%, closing at 409 yen, outperforming the Nikkei 225, which saw no change that day.
