XRP Gains DeFi Momentum as Uphold and VivoPower Embrace Flare Network’s FXRP and FAssets
XRP is gaining a notable foothold in decentralized finance (DeFi) through its growing integration with the Flare Network—a development that could signal a significant evolution in how institutional and retail investors engage with the digital asset. According to a recent report by crypto intelligence firm Messari, Flare’s FXRP token and its FAssets framework are key drivers of this momentum, offering a secure and composable way for XRP holders to access DeFi yields and services.
Institutional Support Builds
Two major players are spearheading XRP's latest DeFi expansion:
-
Uphold, a prominent crypto trading platform that holds over 1.8 billion XRP, is actively exploring integration of FXRP, a trustless representation of XRP that functions on the Flare blockchain.
-
Meanwhile, VivoPower International PLC, a NASDAQ-listed sustainable energy company, has committed $100 million in XRP for deployment on Flare’s DeFi infrastructure. The company plans to use FXRP and related tools to generate on-chain yield, with profits routed back into its treasury operations.
These moves indicate a broadening appetite from both crypto-native firms and traditional corporates to engage with decentralized yield-generating protocols—especially those offering strong compliance and collateralization assurances.
What Is FXRP and Why It Matters
FXRP is a fully collateralized, non-custodial token that mirrors XRP’s value on the Flare Network. It forms part of Flare’s FAssets system, which enables assets from non-smart-contract blockchains (like XRP, BTC, or DOGE) to interact with DeFi applications built on Flare’s Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible environment.
Crucially, FXRP is backed by a multi-asset collateral basket that includes:
-
FLR (Flare’s native token)
-
Approved stablecoins
-
Collateral provided by “agents” who are required to undergo KYC and regulatory vetting
This architecture is designed to avoid many of the pitfalls associated with less secure bridging solutions that have been exploited in past DeFi exploits.
Yield Through Liquid Staking: stXRP Incoming
Flare is also preparing to launch stXRP, a liquid staking derivative of FXRP. Similar to Ethereum’s stETH, stXRP will allow holders to stake their assets and earn rewards—without sacrificing liquidity. This enhances utility and interoperability, enabling holders to participate in lending, trading, and other DeFi activities while earning passive income.
The product is built atop Firelight Protocol, a staking framework native to Flare’s ecosystem.
Why It Matters for XRP and DeFi
XRP’s lack of native smart contract support has historically limited its use in DeFi. However, with Flare’s EVM layer and FAssets system, XRP can now serve as collateral, be traded, or be staked in decentralized apps (dApps), effectively "unlocking" the asset for composability.
According to Messari, this shift could redirect billions of dollars in dormant XRP holdings into productive DeFi use cases. XRP has a market cap exceeding $30 billion as of June 2025, and even a 5–10% migration into DeFi could generate significant liquidity for Flare-based protocols.
Flare Network’s structured, compliant approach is positioning it as a DeFi platform suitable for institutional-grade applications. As more real-world companies look for stable yield in decentralized systems, solutions like FXRP may play a central role in bridging traditional finance with blockchain infrastructure.
For XRP, long seen as a cross-border settlement token, this could represent a transformational step into full-fledged decentralized finance.
