Trump Expected to Sign Stablecoin Legislation by August Amid Defense of Family’s Crypto Involvement, Says White House Adviser

President Donald Trump's administration is on track to enact comprehensive stablecoin legislation by August 2025, according to Bo Hines, Executive Director of the Presidential Council of Advisers on Digital Assets. Hines emphasized the bipartisan support for the GENIUS Act (Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins), which has already passed the Senate Banking Committee with an 18-6 vote. He anticipates that the bill could reach the president's desk within two months, underscoring the administration's commitment to maintaining the U.S. dollar's dominance in digital finance.

The GENIUS Act aims to establish a regulatory framework for stablecoins, requiring issuers to maintain 1:1 backing with U.S. dollars or equivalent assets and to comply with anti-money laundering laws. Hines highlighted the urgency of passing the legislation to ensure that the United States remains a leader in the global digital economy.

However, the administration's rapid deregulatory approach to the cryptocurrency industry has raised ethical concerns. Critics argue that the Trump family's significant involvement in crypto ventures, such as World Liberty Financial and the $TRUMP meme coin, could lead to conflicts of interest. For instance, top holders of the $TRUMP coin have been promised exclusive access to a private dinner with the president, raising questions about potential pay-to-play schemes.

In response to these concerns, Hines defended the Trump family's crypto ties, asserting that the administration is committed to fostering innovation while ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards. He emphasized that the proposed stablecoin legislation is designed to provide clarity and stability to the digital asset market, benefiting both consumers and the broader financial system.

As the legislative process progresses, the administration faces the challenge of balancing the promotion of technological innovation with the need to address ethical considerations and maintain public trust. The outcome of the GENIUS Act will likely set the tone for future regulatory approaches to digital assets in the United States.
