SharpLink’s ETH Treasury Soars Past $1.3 Billion
SharpLink Gaming, the Ethereum treasury-focused company led by co-founder and ConsenSys CEO Joseph Lubin, has taken its ETH reserves to new heights. As of July 20, the firm held 360,807 ETH, worth approximately $1.33 billion, following its single-largest weekly acquisition of 79,949 ETH at an average cost of $3,238 per ETH.
Fastest Quarterly Growth in Company History
Between July 7 and July 13 alone, SharpLink purchased 74,656 ETH for about $213 million, at an average price of $2,852, rapidly expanding its stake to over 280,706 ETH—already worth roughly $867 million by mid-July.
Strategic Pivot: Ethereum Over Bitcoin
Initially inspired by the Bitcoin treasury model, SharpLink shifted its corporate strategy in late May to focus on Ethereum. With Lubin on board as chairman, the firm launched an ATM equity program aiming to raise up to $6 billion for ETH acquisitions, and currently holds roughly $96.6 million in available capital earmarked for ongoing purchases.
GENIUS Act Ushers Regulatory Clarity
Lubin lauded the recent passage of the GENIUS Act, signed into law earlier this week, as “a watershed moment” that brings desperately needed regulatory clarity for digital assets. He emphasized that the new framework helps unlock Ethereum’s full potential—from staking and security to scalability and smart contract utility.
A Leader Among Institutional Holders
SharpLink is now one of the largest corporate Ether holders globally, trailing only behind other major treasuries such as BitMine and the Ethereum Foundation. As of last week, BitMine had recently surpassed the firm with over 300,000 ETH, while the Foundation held around 234,000 ETH.
Why This Matters
-
Institutional Confidence in Ethereum: SharpLink’s aggressive accumulation demonstrates growing trust and adoption of ETH as a corporate treasury asset.
-
Regulatory Tailwinds: With the GENIUS Act providing legislative clarity, firms may feel more secure in deploying capital into on-chain assets like ETH.
-
Ecosystem Impact: With the majority of ETH staked (over 99.7% of its holdings), SharpLink is not just buying—they're contributing to network security and earning staking rewards.
What's Next
-
Capital Deployment: With nearly $100 million still allocated, SharpLink appears poised to continue buying, likely pressing past the 400,000 ETH mark.
-
Market Ripples: Institutional accumulation may prompt other companies to adopt similar treasury strategies, raising Ethereum’s corporate utility.
-
Regulatory Landscape: Observers will closely watch how implementation of the GENIUS Act influences institutional behavior and market confidence in the coming months.
