Marco Santori Joins Pantera Capital: A Strategic Legal Mind Powers Crypto Investment Growth

Marco Santori, a prominent figure in cryptocurrency law and the former Chief Legal Officer at Kraken, has joined Pantera Capital, a leading crypto investment firm, as a partner. In his announcement, Santori remarked, “The timing couldn’t be better, and Pantera couldn’t be better positioned to capitalize on it,” highlighting his enthusiasm for this new role.

Career Trajectory and Impact at Kraken

Santori's legal career in the crypto industry is marked by significant contributions. He is notably recognized for co-authoring the Simple Agreement for Future Tokens (SAFT) framework, which aimed to provide a compliant structure for token sales. Prior to his tenure at Kraken, he served as President and Chief Legal Officer at Blockchain.com and held positions at Cooley LLP and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, where he advised clients on regulatory matters related to digital assets.

During his nearly five-year tenure at Kraken, Santori expanded the legal team from a modest group to a robust department of nearly seventy professionals, including in-house lobbyists and government relations experts across Washington, D.C., London, and Brussels. He played a pivotal role in securing a bank charter from Wyoming and obtaining nearly one hundred licenses and registrations globally. His departure from the Chief Legal Officer role in January 2025 coincided with Kraken facing legal challenges from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over registration claims. Despite stepping down, Santori remained with Kraken as a senior adviser, focusing on establishing a global advisory council for the exchange.

Strategic Move to Pantera Capital

Santori's transition to Pantera Capital signifies a strategic alignment with a firm deeply entrenched in the crypto investment landscape. Pantera, known for its focus on Web3 technologies, has been bolstering its leadership team, as evidenced by the recent appointment of Todd Slattery, a former BlackRock executive, as Chief Operating Officer. Santori's extensive legal expertise and regulatory experience are expected to be invaluable assets as Pantera navigates the evolving digital asset ecosystem.

Santori's move to Pantera Capital underscores a broader trend of seasoned legal professionals transitioning into strategic roles within the crypto investment sphere. His deep understanding of regulatory frameworks and commitment to fostering compliant growth in the digital asset space position him to influence Pantera's investment strategies significantly. As the crypto industry continues to mature, such leadership appointments are indicative of a concerted effort to bridge the gap between innovative financial technologies and regulatory compliance.

Marco Santori's new role at Pantera Capital reflects both his personal career evolution and the broader maturation of the cryptocurrency industry, where legal expertise is increasingly integral to strategic investment and growth.
