DigitalX Raises $13.5M to Expand Bitcoin Holdings Amid Growing Institutional Interest

Australian crypto asset manager DigitalX Limited (ASX: DCC) has raised over AUD 20.7 million (USD 13.5 million) in fresh funding to significantly expand its bitcoin treasury, aligning itself with a growing global trend of public companies embracing BTC as a core strategic asset.

The capital raise, finalized in early July 2025, was anchored by prominent Web3 investors, including Animoca Brands, UTXO Management, and ParaFi Capital. Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich also participated in the round, signaling strong confidence in DigitalX’s digital asset strategy.

According to the company’s latest announcement, AUD 19.7 million (~USD 12.9 million) from the raise will be directly allocated toward acquiring additional Bitcoin. This move is set to elevate the firm’s total bitcoin and digital asset holdings to more than AUD 95 million (~USD 61 million).

“Bitcoin is the reserve asset of Web3. DigitalX’s approach provides a publicly listed, regulated gateway for exposure to Bitcoin in Australia,” said Yat Siu, Executive Chairman of Animoca Brands.

Key Details of the Fundraising Round

  • Share Price: AUD 0.074 per share, representing a 9.8% discount to the last traded price before the placement.

  • Warrants: Attached options exercisable at AUD 0.15, expiring in 18 months.

  • Stock Reaction: DCC shares surged nearly 42%, closing above AUD 0.11 on the ASX post-announcement.

DigitalX’s Bitcoin Strategy in Context

The move places DigitalX among a growing cohort of public companies integrating bitcoin into their treasuries. Inspired by pioneers like MicroStrategy, Block, and Metaplanet, DigitalX is carving a niche in the Asia-Pacific region by offering transparent, regulated exposure to BTC.

DigitalX already manages the ASX-listed Bitcoin ETF (ASX: BTXX), Australia’s first direct bitcoin exchange-traded fund. By pairing ETF management with direct treasury accumulation, the company is building a vertically integrated digital asset strategy.

Broader Institutional Shift

This fundraising round reflects a broader institutional pivot toward Bitcoin as a reserve asset. As fiat currencies face inflationary pressures, many corporates are looking to Bitcoin’s fixed supply and decentralization as a long-term hedge.

A recent report by Fidelity Digital Assets highlighted this shift, noting that "Bitcoin’s scarcity, global liquidity, and censorship resistance make it a compelling addition to corporate balance sheets."

Outlook

DigitalX’s enhanced treasury position and strong investor backing suggest a strategic pivot from merely participating in the crypto market to becoming a core infrastructure player in Australia’s digital asset ecosystem.

As institutions seek regulated, transparent ways to gain crypto exposure, DigitalX’s unique combination of ETF management and direct bitcoin holding places it at the forefront of Australia’s crypto-financial landscape.
