Bitcoin & XRP Open Interest Nears All-Time Highs Amid Bull Market Cooldown

After an exhilarating climb across the crypto markets, a wave of correction is beginning to surface—yet signs of institutional confidence and leveraged positioning suggest the bull market is far from over. As of today, both Bitcoin (BTC) and XRP are seeing futures open interest levels pushing toward record territory, even as spot prices undergo a healthy pullback. Meanwhile, Solana (SOL) is struggling to reclaim a key resistance level at $168, raising questions about the next move for altcoins.

Bitcoin Slides to $116K — But Underlying Strength Persists

Bitcoin has retraced approximately 5.2% from its all-time high of $123,045, trading around $116,700 at the time of writing. The move follows a sharp run-up driven by institutional inflows and broader optimism surrounding crypto-friendly U.S. legislation.

"Corrections like this are normal in bull cycles," says crypto analyst Michael Thorn of ChainMatrix. "The key is where support holds. For now, $112K remains a critical technical level."

Futures open interest (OI) for BTC currently stands at 733,000 BTC, just shy of the all-time high of 744,000 BTC set earlier this year. This suggests traders are still highly engaged, with leveraged positions staying strong despite price volatility.

Adding to the confidence, spot Bitcoin ETFs in the U.S. have seen over $3.4 billion in net inflows so far in July, further solidifying institutional commitment.

RP: High-Stakes Game as Open Interest Hits $2.74 Billion

XRP has seen explosive interest in the derivatives market, with open interest reaching $2.74 billion in nominal terms—equivalent to roughly $7.2 billion in contract value. This marks an all-time high for XRP and signals aggressive speculation ahead of key legislative updates in the U.S. Congress this week.

At present, XRP is trading near $2.85, holding above its 100-hour moving average and Ichimoku cloud support. Despite a slight dip from recent highs above $3, the asset remains technically resilient.

What’s more striking is the surge in implied volatility, which has spiked to 96%, suggesting traders are pricing in a 13–15% move in either direction this week.

"XRP is clearly at the center of speculative action right now,” said Lina Moretti, a derivatives strategist at Coinframe Labs. “But the risk is two-sided—volatility is a double-edged sword.”

Solana Struggles at $168, Bulls and Bears Clash

Solana (SOL) recently broke out of a falling wedge pattern, quickly jumping to $168 before facing immediate rejection. It’s now trading around $160–162, as bulls attempt to regain momentum.

Key support lies between $153–155, where both the 20-day and 200-day exponential moving averages converge. If those levels break, the next major support would be around $146. On the flip side, a clean breakout above $168 would open the door to $175–178 short-term targets.

“Solana’s technical setup is clean, but it's dependent on Bitcoin’s direction,” says crypto technician Kareem L. “If BTC drops below $112K, SOL likely follows.”

Market Summary

Asset Current Price Support Levels Resistance Levels Notable Metrics
BTC $116,700 $112K / $107K $120K / $123K 733K BTC OI; ETF inflows $3.4B
XRP $2.85 $2.80 / $2.60 $3.00 / $3.40 OI: $7.2B; Implied Vol: 96%
SOL $161 $153 / $146 $168 / $175 Facing technical resistance

What’s Driving the Market?

Several macro and political factors are influencing price behavior this week:

  • U.S. Congress is reviewing crypto legislation, including the Clarity Act and Anti-CBDC bill, which could reshape regulatory narratives.

  • Treasury volatility is rising, with the MOVE index climbing—often a precursor to crypto market shakeups.

  • Inflation prints and Fed rate guidance are due later this week, potentially impacting dollar strength and risk appetite.

Outlook

While Bitcoin and altcoins face short-term turbulence, the overall structure remains bullish. Strong open interest, rising ETF demand, and deep liquidity suggest this is a consolidation—not a collapse. However, with leveraged bets peaking and political uncertainty looming, expect increased volatility in the days ahead.

Key Levels to Watch This Week:

  • BTC: $112K support and $120K resistance

  • XRP: Hold above $2.80 or risk deeper correction

  • SOL: Needs daily close above $168 to confirm trend continuation
