Bernstein Forecasts $330B Surge in Corporate Bitcoin Inflows by 2029

Bernstein Research projects that corporate treasury allocations to Bitcoin could increase by $330 billion by 2029, with strategic buying alone accounting for an additional $124 billion over the next five years. This outlook is underpinned by a surge in institutional interest, particularly through Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and a constrained supply of the cryptocurrency.

Strategic Buying and Corporate Treasury Allocations

Bernstein's analysis suggests that companies are increasingly viewing Bitcoin as a strategic asset for their treasuries. This shift is exemplified by MicroStrategy, a business intelligence firm that has become the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, owning approximately 1.1% of the total supply. MicroStrategy's approach involves leveraging convertible debt to acquire more Bitcoin, thereby increasing its exposure without immediate liquidation risk.

The firm's strategy has outperformed direct Bitcoin holdings, with its net asset value per share growing fourfold compared to a 2.4x increase in Bitcoin's spot price over the past four years . Bernstein anticipates that other corporations will adopt similar strategies, contributing to the projected $124 billion in additional Bitcoin purchases by 2029.

Institutional Demand via Bitcoin ETFs

The approval and launch of Bitcoin ETFs by major asset managers like BlackRock, Fidelity, and Franklin Templeton have significantly boosted institutional demand. Bernstein estimates that Bitcoin ETFs could represent approximately 7% of the total circulating Bitcoin supply by the end of 2025, with assets under management reaching around $190 billion.

This influx of institutional capital is expected to continue, with Bernstein forecasting that Bitcoin's market capitalization could expand to over $3 trillion by the end of 2025, driven by increased allocations from wealth management platforms, pension funds, and registered investment advisors.

Supply Constraints and Market Dynamics

The recent Bitcoin halving event, which reduced the miner's block subsidy reward from 6.25 BTC to 3.125 BTC, has halved the new supply of Bitcoin from an average of 900 BTC per day to 450 BTC per day. This reduction in supply, coupled with rising demand, creates a favorable environment for price appreciation.

Bernstein's analysis indicates that Bitcoin's price has historically rallied to multiples of its marginal cost of production during previous cycles. For the 2024–2027 cycle, the firm expects Bitcoin to reach a high of $200,000, driven by the interplay of constrained supply and increasing demand.

Long-Term Outlook

Looking further ahead, Bernstein projects that Bitcoin's price could reach $500,000 by 2029 and $1 million by 2033. These forecasts are based on continued institutional adoption, the maturation of the Bitcoin ETF market, and the asset's evolving role as a digital store of value.

In summary, Bernstein's analysis highlights a significant shift in corporate and institutional behavior towards Bitcoin, driven by strategic treasury allocations, robust ETF demand, and supply constraints. These factors collectively contribute to a bullish long-term outlook for Bitcoin's price and market capitalization.
