ARK Invest Seizes Crypto Stock Opportunities as Coinbase and BitMine Dip

ARK Invest has made bold portfolio moves amid a volatile crypto equity market, buying the dip in both Coinbase and BitMine Immersion Technologies as share prices stumbled.

Strategic Acquisitions

On Friday, ARK purchased approximately 94,678 shares of Coinbase, amounting to nearly $30 million, after the stock suffered a steep decline of over 16% in a single day. The drop followed weaker-than-expected earnings and mounting regulatory headwinds, pushing Coinbase’s stock down to around $314 per share, well below its recent highs.

At the same time, ARK acquired about 540,712 shares of BitMine Immersion Technologies, valued at $17 million, as the company’s stock declined by over 8% during the same session. These trades were spread across several ARK exchange-traded funds, including ARKK (Innovation ETF), ARKW (Next Generation Internet ETF), and ARKF (Fintech Innovation ETF).

BitMine: The New Focus

This isn’t ARK’s first move on BitMine. In late July, the investment firm acquired a massive $182 million stake in BitMine by purchasing over 4.7 million shares, followed days later by an additional $20 million acquisition. ARK's cumulative investment in BitMine now exceeds $220 million in just a few weeks.

BitMine has gained significant investor attention for its aggressive Ethereum treasury strategy. The company is reported to be holding between 566,000 and 625,000 ETH, making it one of the largest institutional holders of Ethereum globally. This positions BitMine not just as a mining operation but as a major player in Ethereum-based financial infrastructure.

Realigning the Portfolio

While ramping up exposure to BitMine, ARK has been trimming its position in Coinbase. Over the past two weeks, the firm has sold nearly 219,000 Coinbase shares, worth as much as $90 million, depending on trade timing. Additionally, ARK has reduced its holdings in other major fintech names like Block (formerly Square) and Robinhood.

This reallocation suggests a strategic pivot. Rather than focusing on trading platforms that face increasing regulatory and operational risks, ARK is betting on blockchain infrastructure firms—especially those embedded in Ethereum’s scaling narrative.

Market Sentiment

Both Coinbase and BitMine saw sharp declines ahead of ARK’s purchases, signaling broader investor caution. Coinbase’s Q2 earnings report fell short of expectations, with declining user activity and rising costs. BitMine’s dip, on the other hand, was likely tied to broader sector volatility rather than company-specific issues.

Despite the pullback, ARK’s heavy investment into BitMine signals a belief that Ethereum-centric infrastructure will play a dominant role in the next phase of blockchain innovation. By reallocating capital from trading platforms to infrastructure providers, ARK appears to be positioning itself for long-term growth rather than short-term volatility.

ARK Invest continues to act boldly in uncertain markets. While many investors pull back amid crypto volatility, ARK is doubling down—shifting capital into firms it sees as foundational to the future of digital finance. Whether this strategy will deliver the outsized returns Cathie Wood is known for remains to be seen, but the message is clear: ARK is betting big on blockchain infrastructure, and BitMine is currently its star player.
