ARK Invest Cashes In: Offloads $50M+ in Circle Shares Amid Fivefold Rally

According to the firm's latest trading disclosures, ARK offloaded approximately 342,658 Circle shares across three of its actively managed ETFs—ARKK (Innovation), ARKW (Next Generation Internet), and ARKF (Fintech Innovation)—on Monday. The estimated sale proceeds exceed $51.7 million, marking the firm's first major reduction in its Circle position since the company’s June 5 public debut.

🚀 Circle’s Explosive Run

Circle, best known as the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, went public at $31 per share. Within less than two weeks, the stock soared to an intraday high near $165 before settling around $151 by mid-June—representing a nearly 400% increase from its IPO price.

This price action is fueled by intense interest from both crypto and traditional tech investors, driven by optimism about Circle’s revenue model, regulatory positioning, and growth potential in the digital dollar economy.

📊 ARK’s Holdings: Profits Realized, Exposure Retained

While the firm sold a fraction of its stake, ARK remains heavily invested in Circle. Based on current estimates, it still holds over 4.15 million shares of CRCL, now worth more than $628 million, up from an initial purchase of ~$373 million.

Fund Shares Sold Remaining Stake (Est.) Current Value
ARKK 196,367 ~2.8 million ~$387.7M
ARKW 92,310 ~950,000 ~$124M
ARKF 53,981 ~390,000 ~$72M

The decision to trim positions appears to be a classic profit-taking strategy as part of routine rebalancing—locking in early gains without abandoning the longer-term thesis on Circle’s relevance in the digital finance space.

🧠 Analyst Insight: Tactical Move Amid Frothy Valuations

Industry analysts suggest the partial exit aligns with prudent risk management, especially amid market chatter that Circle’s rally may be overheating. Some commentators, including BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes, have called the stock a “hot potato,” warning that price momentum might reverse just as swiftly.

However, ARK’s continued large stake across multiple funds signals confidence in Circle’s core business. USDC remains the second-largest stablecoin globally, and with regulation looming, firms like Circle stand to benefit from clarity and institutional adoption.

🧩 Strategic Balancing: ARK's Broader Moves

At the same time as the Circle sell-off, ARK has reportedly been adding to other high-conviction positions like Nvidia, suggesting a broader strategy of rebalancing within the high-growth tech ecosystem. This positions ARK to maintain upside exposure while protecting gains amid volatile market conditions.

ARK Invest’s partial sale of Circle shares underscores a disciplined approach to high-risk, high-reward investing. By capturing profits while maintaining a sizable long-term position, Cathie Wood’s firm is navigating a frothy market with both conviction and caution.

Circle’s post-IPO story is still unfolding—and ARK clearly plans to remain a key player in that narrative.
