American Bitcoin Accelerates Mining Ambitions with Massive ASIC Order

American Bitcoin Corp., a crypto-mining enterprise co-founded by Eric Trump and backed by Donald Trump Jr., has recently executed a strategic hardware acquisition to significantly boost its computational capacity. The company finalized a $314 million purchase of 16,299 Bitmain Antminer U3S21EXPH units, adding around 14.02 exahashes per second (EH/s) to its mining output.

This move stems from a larger hardware agreement inherited from Hut 8’s Zephyr deal, which originally allowed acquisitions of up to 17,280 units for up to $320 million. As of late July, American Bitcoin already owned over 60,000 mining units, including Bitmain’s Antminer S21+ and models from MicroBT.

Strategic Timing and Trade Context
Timing could not be more critical: the acquisition strategically sidesteps anticipated price increases from tariffs on Chinese-made mining rigs, emerging under the Trump administration’s trade reforms. This reflects a broader pattern of reshoring within the crypto hardware industry.

Bitmain's U.S. Push: Local Manufacturing to Counter Trade Barriers

As part of the shifting dynamics, Bitmain—by far the world’s largest ASIC manufacturer, controlling an 82% market share of mining hardware —is launching its first production facility in the U.S., with potential sites in Florida or Texas. The assembly line and headquarters are planned to be fully operational by the end of Q3 2025. Initial production is slated for early 2026, with full-scale manufacturing expected later that year.

Besides improving logistics and shortening repair times, this move will foster local employment—Bitmain intends to hire around 250 U.S.-based workers for manufacturing and maintenance roles.

Political Ties, Expansion Plans, and Market Strategy

American Bitcoin’s Growth Path
Since its launch in April 2025, American Bitcoin has mined 215 bitcoins and raised $220 million by mid-2025 to fund further expansion, including mining and direct BTC acquisitions. The firm is preparing to go public via a reverse merger with Nasdaq-listed Gryphon Digital Mining (ticker: ABTC), projected to complete in early September 2025.

Political Capital at Play
The company leverages its high-profile Trump family connections amid the current wave of crypto-friendly policies, including the establishment of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and a U.S. Digital Asset Stockpile, formalized via executive orders earlier this year. Despite growing industry momentum, some analysts express skepticism, calling the reserve "largely symbolic" without legislative support.
